Chronic Insomnia other sleep problems

I had chronic insomnia for years and have taken Ambien CR 12 mg nightly for the last 3 years because it got so bad I was awake for 14 days straight and was hospitalized or lack of sleep. I have had other sleep disturbances since childhood that my mother claims started as an infant. Sleepwalking, sleep terrors, and fighting in my sleep or so active while I was sleeping she thought I was like an energizer bunny at times and I would also talk in my sleep progressing to streaming and yelling neighbors thought my mother was abusing me. This has continued into adulthood and has even affected my mariage before my husbnd died that when in the same bed as him I would literally beat the snot out of him leading us to sleep in differrent rooms because I was loud and restless it afected his sleep.

I had a sleep study about eight years ago to evaluate or sleep apnea and that was normal no sleep apnea and other sleep disturbances were noticed at that time but I do not think that anything else was being evaluate at the time. I plan to ask the new primary physician I have a comprehensive sleep study. There seem to be no explanations for these sleep disturbances but with the progress in sleep medicine I think I may find some answers and possibly some treatments to help with the sleep issues.

I still tothis day whenever there is a new neighbor and I start screaming and yelling in my sleep the police have been called to check on the situation and I awake to pounding on the door or my son will answer the door and the police will see I fast asleep screaming yelling cursing and beating the snot out of a invisible person and the officer has awoken me to make sure I am ok. Now if the call comes late at night The police department will actually ask the neighbor what apartment the disturbance is coming from and will reassure them I am ok and I do this in my sleep. I even warn new neighbors now about it so they wil not be s worried and my landlord is well aware of my sleep disturbances and knows I have no control over it but has taken steps to make sure my apartment has more insulation triple pane window etc to help lessen the effects on others.

If anyone has ever had these type of symptoms it would be appreciative t know more. Dazed Confused Sleepy in California.
