At the time, I was going through an extremely disorienting phase of my life. I wasn’t prepared to be an adult. Very immature, depressed, the doctors put me through a series of 30 electroshock treatments — both sides of my brain–and there were just times when I didn’t know whether I was coming or going. And then I started with this business of wanting to go to bed a little later each night and get up a little later each morning. In my final year of college, I absolutely could not do 8 AM classes. And I was close enough to graduation, there were certain classes I had no choice but to take. I graduated in 1969. It was very much a problem for me at work also. One job I had they had a concept called “flex time.” Instead of working 8:30 to 4:30, I chose to work 10 AM to 6 PM. But I never knew it was a syndrome with a name. In 2009, I turned 63 years old. I continued to have this problem until I was about 60. In the last few years, it seems like I don’t have it anymore. Comments
