I have always been a nightowl, being as young as 7 and still remember watching Letterman (on at 11:30pm in my country) almost every weeknight. Then on the weekends, I sleep until about 1-4pm in the afternoon. Yet even if 4 days in a row, I get up for work at 7:30-8am, nothing on this earth will put me to sleep before 1am. Most nights it’s 2am, sometimes as late as 5am. My brain just whirls around thoughts, fantasies, questions, and I’ve tried EVERYTHING… Alcohol, drugs (legal and otherwise), music, no music, movies, etc. I have started to notice recently, that if I sleep with my curtains open, I am about 3-4 times more likely to wake up when the alarms go off. If they are closed, I will either sleep through them altogether, or turn them off/snooze them and not remember it at all when I do wake up. It has gotten me fired from jobs, and countless warnings. It’s been happening since I was a toddler. I remember crying as a 4yr old because I couldn’t sleep - I had restless legs, hot feet, and thrashed about with frustration at not being able to sleep.
