so here is my story. as far back as i can remember, i always hated to go to sleep. i struggled with my parents, and would wait until they fell asleep to play with toys or watch tv. mornings were terrible and i would sleep on my way to school, or camp, in the car.

in high school it got worse. i would constantly fall asleep in class. i had many latenesses and would always stay up late. everyone ALWAYS told me i was a slacker, and lazy, and had bad discipline. I will admit i am also lazy, hehe, but i know for a fact i have this disorder.

in college things got rly bad, i would sleep all morning and miss classes. often i dont even remember the alarm ringing. i would schedule wake up calls, and set cell phone alarms, and regular alarms. its like a nightly routine. i am not dumb. i went to a really good school and graduated in 4 years. i started my own company and now run a succesful business. i am great at what i do, and often my night owl abilities allow me to produce amazing stuff.

I have read all these posts and the people who have this literally pulled the words out of my mouth. people have been telling me i have a sleep disorder for years. but i always just said that i was a night person. but people dont understand that i cant just go to sleep earlier. once i am up past midnight… i am up. i can lay in bed for hours, with only my thoughts. terrible thought tangents about old embarassing moments, failures, bad events, future stress, and other crap just gets tossed around my head for hours until i finally fall asleep.

last night i went to bed at 6am cause i was BSing on my computer and doing some work. i had to get up early to get a ton of things done, but slept untl 2pm. this happens alot. i get rly angry for sleeping so late, and am amazing i dont remember my alarms. so i wikipediad sleep disorder and BAM this crap came up. i was stunned!!! i have been reading about this for past few hours and it seems that some people’s rhythms are just different from the traditional 9-5.

its amazing how similar people’s stories are to mine. i set multiple alarms. i feel like i cant function right if i dont get 8 hours of sleep… and on weekends i catch up and sleep 12 hours. everyone i know has that inside joke about me. that i sleep too much. its not so much as i sleep too much, but i cant fall asleep at a decent hour… so this causes me to sleep much later than normal people.

has anyone had any success just getting their sleep schedule back on track for good? i have tried countless times. i did the whole “ok well if i stay up all night and all day ill get to sleep at 9pm and wake up at 8am the next day” but that only works for a day or two. somehow my schedule always gets off track. its terrible.

its 2:38am right now, my whole house is sleeping, and i am typing this silly story wide awake. i am actually angry about this… that no one told me earlier. no i need to go try some cures. personally i do struggle with depressing sometimes, but thats because life is not perfect i think. no one can just be happy all the time. i refuse to go on antidepressants. i am going to try the b12 shot. any other ideas?

this story is long winded and im typing it on a tiny laptop with a 7 inch screen in bed so i apologize for the lack of good grammar and bad structure. i hope my story gives some of u some relief. i have it, im succesful, it has not totally ruined my life, but i need to start looking for ways to cure or manage this disorder… now that i finally have a name for it

Honestly as long as I can remember I’ve always had problems falling asleep at a normal time. I can recall being 7-8 years old and waiting for my mother to go to sleep so that I could get out of bed and play with my toys, read, color, watch tv, anything to entertain myself until I’d become tired.
