W/DSPS and happy

I always knew there was something wrong w/ my sleep habit, but until tonite I had no idea it had a name.

I am in the restaurant busines, so late nights are perfect for me.Only if I have to work in the morning couple of times a week I get miserable.

I generally go to bed between 3-6 am and get up 11-3 pm.My problem is even worse b/c I sleep usually up to 12-13 hours.I can function on 4-5 hours of sleep ,but then I have to catch up and I sleep about 18 hours.

Past 20 years I had night job and P/T home busines.I do everything at night. Including weeding and mulching, laundry, sewing, shopping etc. I am a homebody and I don’t mind live this way.My boyfriend is same way.

I was thinking if someone w/dsps would benefit by relocating-for example:from East Coast to Alaska. The time difference might help?

I am originally from Europe and it didn’t seem to help me any.I am again on the “night owl” time -wondering why those 6 hours didn’t do anything. I tried to reprogram my sleep patern many times, only to get grouchy and miserable.I don’t make any appointments before 2 pm and try to schedule everything around my lifestyle. And I am O.K. and productive.

I swear, if one more person tells me to just adhere to a normal schedule and I’ll be fine, it’s going to push me over the edge. What do these people think I have been doing my whole life anyway? [more..]
  • Desparately Seeking Sleep - by M.J.F. - (Mon, Mar 17 2008)
I have always had a problem falling asleep. At first I thought it was insomnia. After looking at info on the web about insomnia, I stumbled upon delayed sleep syndrome. Every night I get in the bed around 8:30 pm or 9:00 pm and lay there looking at the clock eventually falling asleep around 2:00. [more..]

I’ve never been able to get to sleep before 2 or 3 am. When I was younger, my mom would always try to get me to go to sleep earlier, but whenever I tried, I’d just end up staring at the ceiling until it was around 2 or 3 am. I’ve learned that it’s just easier not to fight it. [more..]
