To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS) This “syndrome” is a problem because not everyone can work shift work. I am a school psychologist I must work when everyone else does. I’m a high achiever and wanted a profession that I have a great aptitude for, however mine, like many major professions, does not allow night and afternoon work schedules. I therefore don’t get to sleep before 11:30-12:00, struggle to get up in the morning, still feeling exhausted; try not to fall asleep by 2:30 pm; take a nap when I get home, and try to sleep until 1pm on the weekends. This is no kind of family life, but it’s the best I can do and stay in the “white collar” world. I too am considered “lazy” by my mother and sisters. I have a forgiving husband, but my daughter is like me in this manner. I always thought I just needed more sleep and that the extra sleep kept me awake later into the night. Glad to finally have a name for it! Thanks! Comments
