I worked almost my entire working life on afternoon and midnight shifts serving a necessary and useful function. Because I preferred the off shifts I saved someone with less seniority from being forced onto them, we were both happy. The only time it has been a problem is a few rare occasions when someone tries to drag me onto a day shift schedule for a couple of days (training classes, jury duty, etc.).
